Studies have shown that learning an instrument promotes musical literacy, hones listening skills, inspires creative expression and creates a sense of historical context and belonging. In Mammoth Lakes Lee Vining and Bishop, CMU offers after-school programs for string players of all ages and levels of ability, including private instruction, group lessons, orchestra and chamber music workshops. CMU provides scholarship instruments and tuition waivers to over 40% of group program participants.
Music School programs include:
- Honors Strings - for players 11-18 with over 3 years experience on their instrument
- Mammoth, Lee Vining and Bishop String Orchestras - for ages 5-15
- Private Lessons with enrollment in the "Certificate of Merit" program of the Music Teachers Association of California - for all ages and abilities
Additionally, CMU offers these programs in collaboration with Cerro Coso Community College.
